SETRC Scaling Up in Puerto Rico
Suleima Salgado, MBA, Program Advisor for the Southeast Telehealth Resource Center (SETRC) was recently in Puerto Rico to meet with key partners and stakeholders as part of SETRC expansion efforts into Puerto Rico.
Upon return, a formal collaboration has been established between SETRC and the Puerto Rico Department of Health, Auxiliary Secretariat for Planning and Development (SAPD) office, to support a variety of telemedicine services currently underway through their program, such as public policy awareness, reimbursement models, equipment selection support, training, community education, and more. Services offered by the department of health will be conducted through sub-contract agreements as part of their local collaboration efforts with various agencies and providers across the island who are familiar and have relationships in the local, targeted communities.
In addition, a visit was had with the Puerto Rico Primary Care Association Network (PRPCAN). Their continuous support, guidance and insight has been integral as we at SETRC continue to learn the dynamics around insurance providers, reimbursement, policy and needs of physicians on the island.
SETRC looks forward to continuing to work in Puerto Rico to assist organizations as well as providers in keeping health care local and connecting rural and underserved Puerto Ricans to quality services through broadband, technology, and telehealth.
